Commissioning converts an infrared dryer from installed equipment into a controlled production process. Acceptance should verify mechanical construction, electrical load, airflow, temperature profile, interlocks, product quality and documentation. A warm lamp or dry-looking sample is not a complete acceptance test.

Complete Pre-Energisation Checks

Verify drawings, lamp part numbers, guards, supports, reflector orientation, clearances, terminal torque, earthing, fan rotation and sensor installation. Confirm that tools and packaging have been removed and that the line is safe to energise.

Test Electrical and Control Functions

Record supply voltage and zone current at controlled settings. Test local and remote operation, controller signals, overtemperature protection, fan proving, emergency stop and line-stop power reduction. Verify restart behaviour after loss of power.

Use a Structured Acceptance Matrix

Test Evidence Acceptance basis
Electrical load Voltage and current by zone Approved design and tolerances
Airflow Direction, setting and exhaust condition Process and safety requirement
Thermal profile Centre, edge and process-stage temperatures Validated product window
Product result Dryness, cure and defect tests Agreed quality method
Interlocks Recorded challenge tests Functional specification

Map Temperature With Real Product

Empty-run temperatures do not represent absorption, evaporation or line loading. Run the intended substrate and coating at normal and boundary speeds. Check centre, edges, leading and trailing regions and downstream cooling.

Handover Recipes and Maintenance Baselines

Save zone settings, speed, airflow, sensor configuration and acceptance results. Photograph clean reflectors and record initial electrical readings for future comparison. Review YFR systems and controls and dryer modules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should commissioning use maximum lamp power?

No. Start under controlled conditions and increase only within equipment and product limits.

Can an empty conveyor prove uniformity?

No. Use production material because absorption, evaporation and cooling alter the profile.

What should happen when the line stops?

The defined interlock should reduce or remove heat before stationary product is damaged.

Who approves the final recipe?

Engineering, production, quality and safety responsibilities should be assigned before acceptance.
