Infrared heating is used in plastic forming, welding, laminating, coating, drying and preheating, but the correct emitter and recipe depend on the polymer, colour, thickness and geometry. A halogen lamp is one possible short-wave source; it is not automatically the best choice for every plastic process.

Define the Polymer and Process Stage

Record resin family, grade, colour, fillers, thickness, initial temperature and the required forming, welding, drying or preheating result. Include the most sensitive product variants in trials.


Compare Emitter Response and Spectrum

Short-wave halogen, carbon, fast medium-wave and medium-wave sources differ in response and spectral behaviour. Select through material testing rather than by lamp name alone.


Design Coverage and Working Distance

Map the heated area, edges, curves and shadowed regions. Record lamp spacing, reflector direction, distance, angle and whether the product or heater moves.

Measure Product Temperature

Use a validated measurement method for the actual plastic surface. Check hot and cold locations and coordinate power with line speed or part detection.


Validate the Finished Plastic

Check forming detail, thickness distribution, gloss, colour, distortion, adhesion or weld quality after cooling. Define stop and restart behaviour before releasing the process.
